Environmental Protection Team Leader


Location
Welwyn Garden City, working from the vibrant office in the heart of the town with hybrid working (2 to 3 days per week in office, more frequent during training).

Salary
Starting salary £52,369 per annum with progression to £55,734 per annum through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic officer to lead the Environmental Protection team covering statutory nuisance, air quality, and contaminated land functions. You will support the Environmental Health Manager in delivering this specialist area and undertake both proactive and reactive work responding to a range of service requests. As Team Leader, you will provide technical support and line management, ensuring all service objectives, targets, and service levels are understood, monitored, and met by team members. You will collaborate with other services and senior management to ensure joined-up services aligned with the Council’s aims and objectives. This is a high-impact role at the heart of a prominent public-facing service, offering the opportunity to shape standards across the borough. The post is permanent and politically restricted. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required.

Experience
Proven experience in service delivery within an environmental health or similar local authority setting. A track record of managing complex cases to conclusion and driving service improvements.

Enthusiastic and capable professional with excellent technical knowledge and a passion for environmental protection. Strong time management skills and an innovative approach to problem-solving. Able to lead and motivate a team effectively while working collaboratively across services.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications and experience in environmental health or a related discipline are expected. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
