About the Role
Join the Environmental Enforcement team serving the London Boroughs of Kingston and Sutton, delivering a range of environmental and highway enforcement functions. This role focuses on investigating complaints such as fly tipping, waste offences, abandoned vehicles, and unlawful mooring on the River Thames. You will manage a caseload, respond to urgent requests, and use your investigative skills to determine appropriate enforcement actions. This is not a uniformed officer role; instead, you will keep detailed records, gather evidence, take statements, prepare case files, and attend court as necessary.

Working mainly within the community, you will be part of a small, dynamic team contributing to making the boroughs cleaner and safer. The role offers flexible working arrangements with offices in both Kingston and Sutton town centres and occasional evening and weekend work to support a healthy work-life balance.

The London Boroughs of Kingston and Sutton provide a unique opportunity to work across two high-performing councils with shared services, offering a broad range of experiences and the chance to contribute to ambitious projects such as the London Cancer Hub and major housing regeneration programmes. Both boroughs are committed to tackling the climate emergency and improving community wellbeing.

As part of a forward-thinking organisation, you will be supported to develop your career in a collaborative environment that values innovation, diversity, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in investigation and enforcement activities, preferably within environmental enforcement. Familiarity with PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act) and RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act) is essential. Experience in gathering evidence, taking statements, preparing case files, and attending court is required. Strong ICT skills are necessary.

About you
You are a confident communicator, adaptable, organised, and detail-oriented. You can work independently, prioritise a varied workload, make reasoned judgements, and solve problems effectively. You must hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work. You will be proactive in supporting the wider Shared Environment Service when needed and able to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and diligence.

Qualifications
An appropriate professional qualification or relevant experience in a related field is desirable but not mandatory.
