Our Roads team in Bristol comprises approximately 30 engineers, technicians and project management professionals with diverse backgrounds and experience. We work across a wide variety of projects in the rail and highways sectors for clients including HS2, Sizewell C, Network Rail, National Highways, Welsh Government, Department for Infrastructure, Local Authorities, D&B Contractors and private sector clients.

We are seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers at various grades from Assistant Engineer through to Principal Engineer to join our Roads team. You will lead day-to-day technical delivery of highway consultancy services, supporting clients through all project stages from feasibility and concept design to planning, detailed design, and construction. This client-facing role requires a proven track record in delivering schemes within local or national transport sectors.

Depending on your grade, responsibilities include managing projects to ensure coordination of multi-disciplinary inputs, liaising with clients to build trusted relationships, undertaking project technical lead and reviewer roles, supporting team members to maximise contributions, preparing fee proposals and managing budgets, delivering project solutions, leading staff in design and tender package preparation, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, and supporting team resource coordination.

Requirements

Experience
Relevant knowledge and experience in highway design and/or drainage systems across various project stages. Advantageous experience includes road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design.

Demonstrable experience leading single or multiple design disciplines in relevant projects such as road, public transport, active travel, public realm, or private development.

Proficiency in design software including Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Infraworks, InfoDrainage, and PDS.

Experience managing change on projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost, and quality.

Knowledge of NEC contracts is beneficial.

Good communication, client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills are essential.

About you
Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with extensive post-qualification experience, or working towards achieving this.

Thorough understanding and application of relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance.

Experienced in preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals, including applying departures from standard.

Familiarity with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.

The role and responsibilities will be scaled according to the grade applied for, ranging from Assistant Engineer to Principal Engineer.

Qualifications
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status preferred or working towards it.

Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualifications.
