
Location
London, Stowe and surrounding National Trust estates including Claydon House, Boarstall, Long Crendon Courthouse and Buckingham Chantry Chapel.
Hours
Full Time - 37.5 hours per week, with occasional weekends, bank holidays and evenings as required.

About the Role
As a Gardener for the National Trust, you will be a hands-on member of the garden team responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upholding the highest standards of horticulture at Stowe. Your role will be vital in enhancing the experience of visitors to the garden and wider estate. Reporting to the Head Gardener, you will join a friendly and dedicated team working in a historic and beautiful environment that has attracted visitors for over 300 years.
You will carry out daily checks to ensure all areas are safe for visitors and undertake routine gardening tasks such as weeding, pruning, mulching, and operating machinery including hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, and tractors. Additional duties may include propagation, cutting flowers for the house, preparing plants for sale, tree safety work, garden design and restoration, as well as recycling and waste management alongside the garden team.
Experience
- Proven experience as a horticulturist and hands-on gardener
- Experience working with hard landscaping
- Skilled in operating machinery such as tractors, chainsaws, rotary and cylinder mowers, with some knowledge of maintenance

- Enthusiastic and passionate about horticulture with a great eye for detail
- Able to manage a demanding outdoor role and work effectively within a team, with volunteers or independently
- Good communication skills and able to build rapport with a variety of people
- Reliable, punctual, and able to plan and meet deadlines
- Holder of a full driving licence
Qualifications
Eligibility to work in the UK is required. No specific formal qualifications are stated, but relevant horticultural experience and skills are essential.
