Working as part of the Formals Team, you will look after the central section of the gardens, reporting to the Senior Gardener for the section. You will also collaborate with the wider Gardens Team of staff and volunteers on larger seasonal tasks.

Your work in the Formals section involves care of annual bedding, formal lawns, water features, shrub borders, mixed herbaceous borders, as well as a range of climbers and roses.

Daily duties include keeping the garden in tiptop condition, performing safety checks to ensure all areas are safe for visitors, routine tasks such as weeding, pruning and mulching, and operating machinery including hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers and tractors.

Additional responsibilities may include planting annual bedding, cutting flowers for the house, tree safety work, garden restoration, recycling and waste management alongside the garden team.
