
Location
Based anywhere in the Thames Valley, Home Counties, and London area with travel across various Thames Water sites.
Hours
45 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Includes a standby rota with additional payment and opportunities to earn overtime at time and a half or double rates.
Salary
Up to £54,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus overtime opportunities.
About the Role
Join Thames Water’s waste treatment team as a Generator Field Service Engineer responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and optimising a fleet of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) spark ignition biogas engines. You will carry out planned and unplanned maintenance within a geographical region, working closely with CHP support staff and suppliers to ensure safe, efficient operations with minimal downtime and within budget. Duties include completing accurate service records and reports, identifying parts and consumables for orders, and demonstrating a zero-compromise attitude towards health, safety, and wellbeing. You will also provide excellent customer service and share skills gained from product training to benefit the wider team. The role requires operation and optimisation of engine/generator controls such as ComAp, DIA.NE, and TEM Evo. Thames Water provides all PPE, tools, and a company van when on duty and on call.

Experience
- Proven hands-on experience working with internal combustion engines and associated systems.
- In-depth knowledge of operation and maintenance of internal combustion engines.
- Ability to carry out thorough, methodical diagnostics on engines, generators, and associated systems.
- Experience with natural/bio/AD gas engines, CHP, and gas systems is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications
- Ideally NVQ/C&G or an engine manufacturer's qualification in mechanical engineering.
