About the Role
Lead. Innovate. Make an Impact. Thames Water is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the future of water infrastructure. In this career-defining role, you will lead design delivery for significant projects, ensuring technical excellence, driving safety and risk management, and guiding strategy with commercial insight. You will plan design activities for a portfolio of projects from concept through feasibility and contract award, managing and monitoring progress to meet or exceed milestones and budgets.

You will be responsible for the Technical Assurance of detailed designs by contractors, design change reviews, and waiver applications during construction. Providing technical support to Project Teams during commissioning and handover of assets will be key, as will acting as the key contact for Contract Design Management regulations and the Principal Designer role when required.

Health and safety inspections of construction sites, collaboration with construction assurance engineers, and continuous improvement of health and safety performance are essential aspects of the role. You will apply your competence in risk management, including identification, mitigation, and control, to de-risk projects and add value.

Building strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and applying commercial and contractual acumen alongside project management skills to guide project delivery strategy are critical to success.

The successful candidate will be based at Hampton Coal Wharf and work on a hybrid basis, with flexibility to be on-site or in the office as business needs dictate.

Experience
- Proven background managing successful capital projects and delivering high-quality work with excellent customer focus
- Experience delivering major engineering infrastructure projects up to £100m in value within a regulatory environment
- Competence in risk-based and analytical decision-making for complex investment decisions
- Experience in people management and leading teams

Qualifications
- Engineering Discipline Degree
- Chartered status or working towards chartered status
