About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Waste Site SCADA Systems Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) Waste SCADA support team. In this role, you will maintain and support Thames Water’s critical Site SCADA systems, based on platforms such as AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, and Iconics. Your work will ensure the security, resilience, and availability of these systems, enabling remote monitoring, control, and data insight across treatment works and pumping stations. This supports front-line operations teams and capital delivery projects, helping to reduce pollution, improve performance, and drive innovation in the UK’s largest water and wastewater company.

You will be responsible for maintaining high availability of site SCADA platforms (targeting 99.2% uptime or higher), performing planned maintenance including health checks, patches, and hotfixes, delivering system updates and upgrades, diagnosing and resolving faults, and implementing security enhancements. You will also participate in emergency and out-of-hours support, respond to incidents and service requests, support capital delivery teams with design and commissioning, and act as a subject matter expert providing mentoring and technical guidance.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of Operational Technology, working closely with local Operations and OT teams to ensure system performance and reliability while championing continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the wider OT team.

Requirements

Experience
- Hands-on experience in maintenance or delivery of SCADA/ICA systems such as AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, Iconics, and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
- Proven problem-solving skills balancing technical, operational, and customer-focused decision-making.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver both reactive and project-based work.
- Knowledge or prior experience within the water or wider utilities sector is desirable.
- Exposure to project work across planning, design, and delivery stages of ICA systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with regional SCADA systems and telemetry solutions is a plus.

About you
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with operational teams.
- Strong passion for customer service, especially internal technical stakeholders.
- Clear and effective communication skills, able to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Able to participate in an out-of-hours support rota and respond to high-impact incidents.

Qualifications
- Recognised technical qualification in Operational Technology, ICA, or SCADA systems.
- In-depth experience supporting and configuring AVEVA, FactoryTalk, or Iconics SCADA platforms.
- Expertise in PLC-based systems, especially Allen-Bradley controllers.
- Knowledge of LAN and IP-based communications within OT environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common IT tools for reporting and analysis.
- Desirable: Working knowledge of basic LAN network troubleshooting.
- Desirable: Understanding of network design principles including VLANs, subnets, and redundancy protocols such as MRP or RSTP.
