About the Role
Join Slough Borough Council’s frontline team as a Grounds Maintenance Semi-Skilled Operative and help keep Slough’s parks, streets and open spaces looking their best. You will play a hands-on role maintaining the places our residents use every day, including parks, gardens, roadsides, sports pitches and public open spaces. Your duties will include grass cutting, hedge and shrub maintenance, litter collection, ornamental planting, sports pitch preparation, minor tree works, landscaping and playground maintenance.
You will work both independently and as part of a team, using your skills, knowledge and initiative to complete allocated work safely, efficiently and professionally. You will also use electronic devices to update work progress, liaise with supervisors and colleagues, and help ensure schedules remain accurate and effective.
Key responsibilities include maintaining parks, gardens, open spaces, roadsides and commercial premises to a high standard; using grounds maintenance tools, equipment, plant and vehicles safely and responsibly; supporting a safe working environment for colleagues, residents, visitors and road users; keeping accurate records and updating work progress using handheld or in-cab devices; working courteously with the public and resolving issues on site professionally; and contributing ideas to improve working methods, schedules and service delivery.

Annual increments are payable subject to service and performance. Experience
Practical experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role is desirable but not essential. Reliability, motivation and a hands-on approach are key.

You should be practical, reliable and motivated with a commitment to maintaining high standards in public spaces. You will be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and professionalism. Good communication skills and the ability to work courteously with the public are important. A commitment to health and safety and safe working practices is essential.
Qualifications
Basic DBS check is required. No specific qualifications are mandatory, but a willingness to learn and develop skills in grounds maintenance is essential.
