About the Role
We are seeking 8 enthusiastic and hardworking Grounds Operatives to join our team maintaining the borough’s parks, gardens, open spaces, and roadside landscapes. You will ensure that premises, gates, barriers, and other access points are securely locked after work, with particular attention to safeguarding keys. Providing a high standard of service delivery and customer care is essential, as is presenting a caring and professional image to the public, including wearing prescribed uniform and PPE at all times.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in their surroundings, and wants to make a real difference to the local environment every day.
Slough Borough Council actively supports training, development, and internal progression. Team members are encouraged to gain additional horticultural and machinery qualifications such as PA1/PA6, chainsaw, tractor driving, and trailer towing. There are also opportunities to progress into Team Leader, Supervisor, or Arborist roles.

Annual increments, where applicable, are usually payable on 1 April, subject to six months’ service and satisfactory performance, until the maximum spinal column point is reached.

Requirements

Experience
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture is desirable but not essential. Enthusiasm and a strong work ethic are key.

You should be hardworking, reliable, and take pride in maintaining high standards in your work. A caring attitude towards the environment and the local community is important. You must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team, presenting a professional image at all times.

Qualifications
A basic DBS check is required. The Council supports and encourages gaining additional qualifications relevant to the role, such as PA1/PA6, chainsaw operation, tractor driving, and trailer towing. Right to work in the UK is essential. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this role.
