About the Role
Do you want to play a pivotal role in accelerating the global energy transition by ensuring the reliability and safety of critical electrical infrastructure? GE Vernova is seeking an exceptional HV Substation Commissioning Engineer to join our Grid Solutions team based in the UK. You will lead site-based commissioning activities, ensuring that high-voltage substation projects are tested, commissioned, and integrated to the highest standards of safety and technical excellence. Your responsibilities will include managing the technical integrity of primary and secondary equipment during construction and operational phases, collaborating with internal teams and external clients to deliver projects efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with regulatory and quality standards. You will drive effective testing and commissioning of HV and LV substation equipment, lead on-site commissioning teams, provide technical guidance and mentorship, create accurate technical documentation, and improve system performance through expert fault finding on protection schemes and integration of third-party Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). This role requires extensive travel across the UK and globally, with the ability to spend considerable time away from home for training and field assignments.

Requirements

Experience
- Substantive experience in testing and commissioning of HV power system equipment within generation, transmission, or distribution environments
- Proven ability to manage and troubleshoot complex protection schemes and substation automation systems
- Familiarity with modern communication protocols such as IEC61850, Modbus, and IEC 104
- Expertise in using industry-standard test equipment such as Omicron, Sverker, or Megger

Qualifications
- Formal education such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is desirable but not essential; professional experience and achievements are highly valued
