About the Role
Natural Resources Wales is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, organised, and passionate Land Management Officer to join the high-profile Waterfall Country Project in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. This Fixed-Term Appointment runs until 31/03/2028. Waterfall Country has seen a significant rise in visitor numbers, now around 300,000 annually, driven largely by social media. This increase has led to changes in visitor behaviour, deterioration of site infrastructure and protected features, and impacts on local communities. Improving visitor safety is a key objective requiring a holistic approach.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and stakeholders to support the development and implementation of visitor safety initiatives including infrastructure improvements, upgrading on-site interpretation, and enhancing messaging and pre-visit communications. You will play an integral role within the busy Land Management Team, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Key responsibilities include implementing team work plans, delivering agreed actions, participating in NRW technical and strategic groups, representing NRW on external forums, and managing delegated programmes within budget and compliance requirements. The role involves ensuring adherence to procurement procedures, health and safety legislation, and industry best practice.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience managing visitor safety in a forest setting including recreation inspections, defect mapping, planning infrastructure improvements, and writing works specifications.
- Experience managing contracts involving rural path construction and vegetation management.
- Experience working across a wide range of land management disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge of designated sites and all aspects of forest practice including land liabilities, forest planning, forest operations, and recreation asset management.
- Experience in community liaison and public engagement activities.

About you
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to prioritise work effectively.
- Active team player with strong time-management skills.
- Committed to equal opportunities and diversity.
- Willingness to engage in personal development through NRW’s development plans.

Qualifications
- Knowledge of sustainable forest management, UKWAS, and forest certification schemes.
- Full and valid UK driving licence.
- Welsh Language Level A1 (basic understanding and pronunciation of Welsh names). NRW offers support to meet this requirement during employment.
- Ability to undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
- Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
