About the Role
Are you ready to lead and make a real impact? We are seeking a dynamic expert to drive and deliver specialist advice in Air Quality and Noise Modelling across Wales. Your insights will directly inform Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales (NRW), and UK-wide policy and guidance, helping shape a healthier, more sustainable future. This is your opportunity to lead a high-impact service that influences environmental decision-making at the highest levels, apply your expertise to complex modelling challenges with real-world consequences, and collaborate with key stakeholders across government and environmental bodies.

You will lead the development and provision of advice and guidance on all aspects of Air Quality and Noise modelling services for Wales, ensuring local decisions align with agreed government approaches. You will manage complex permitting and compliance cases related to air quality, odour, heavy metals, dioxins, and their impacts on health and ecosystems. The role includes shadowing the Environment Agency on nuclear air emissions dose exposure assessments and conducting modelling for non-nuclear radiological emissions.

Using a variety of air quality and noise modelling software, you will assess impacts on health and the environment from new and existing industrial and commercial installations. You will develop and appraise complex technical information for audiences ranging from technical experts to non-technical stakeholders. Collaboration with UK-wide organisations, including Welsh and UK Governments, on air quality and noise modelling risk assessment guidance and good practice implementation is essential.

Natural Resources Wales supports flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home with a suitable hybrid working pattern agreed upon appointment. Regular face-to-face meetings or training will be planned in advance. Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

- Experience acting as an expert in air quality, noise, and radiological modelling.
- Knowledge of complex terrain micrometeorology and computer programming skills.
- Experience developing bespoke tools and methodologies for complex data analysis, visualisation, and screening.
- Proven ability to liaise with stakeholders and software vendors to update and review modelling software and tools.

About you
- Excellent communicator with effective interpersonal skills and a strong team player.
