About the Role
Natural Resources Wales is seeking an experienced professional to lead the organisation’s State of Natural Resources Reporting (SoNaRR) obligations and contribute specialist expertise across the wider environmental reporting remit. In this key role, you will coordinate the development and implementation of NRW’s organisational approach to environmental reporting, providing strategic advice and guidance across the organisation, to Welsh Government officials, and national stakeholders.

You will lead the preparation of State of Natural Resources Reports, ensuring delivery within statutory timescales set by Welsh Government. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong specialist expertise who enjoys working collaboratively, providing strategic advice, and leading the delivery of high-profile reporting commitments that support informed decision-making across Wales.

Key responsibilities include leading and project managing SoNaRR preparation with effective governance, project planning, stakeholder engagement, and delivery; acting as the organisation’s specialist expert on SoNaRR; commissioning and managing complex work relating to SoNaRR and wider environmental reporting priorities; providing expert advice on environmental evidence interpretation and application; engaging and influencing senior stakeholders at Wales, UK, and European levels; contributing to NRW’s wider environmental reporting programme; chairing and participating in governance groups; and providing specialist oversight of SoNaRR project delivery.

The role also involves undertaking health and safety duties appropriate to the post, commitment to NRW’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, and personal development through the use of a personal development plan (Sgwrs). Additional reasonable duties commensurate with the role grade may be requested.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in leading complex environmental reporting projects, preferably within a public or governmental organisation. Strong expertise in environmental evidence interpretation, synthesis, and application. Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and managing multi-disciplinary teams using matrix management approaches.

About you
Collaborative and strategic thinker with excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-profile reporting commitments within statutory deadlines. Commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to personal development.
