About the Role
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) plays a vital role in protecting the environment, supporting communities and businesses, and managing the natural resources that underpin Wales' economy, culture and quality of life. As part of NRW, you'll join the Integrated Engineering Team, a specialist group responsible for designing and delivering the roads, bridges and infrastructure that support sustainable forestry across the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. Working in some of Wales' most stunning landscapes, you'll help deliver projects that keep our forests accessible, productive and resilient for future generations. This is a unique opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to projects of real environmental and national importance, while benefiting from the flexibility, development opportunities and sense of purpose that come with working for NRW.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with specialist senior officers and leads across multi-disciplinary teams in NRW. Identify all consents and permissions required and apply for or instruct colleagues to obtain these in a timely manner. Provide mentoring and staff development support to team members and champion health, safety, wellbeing and environmental objectives, including CDM2015, UKWAS and ISO14001. Demonstrate exemplar project management principles, including financial, programme, scope, risk and contract management for infrastructure and new roads projects. Maintain project documentation and organise programme meetings. Prepare, track and manage project programmes, providing accurate forecasting of project milestones and managing programme delivery risks. Write and maintain registers for projects and manage financial, commercial, legal, operational and reputational risks, informing senior staff promptly to resolve matters. Incorporate specialist knowledge and advice into pre-construction information to ensure engineering works are integrated into design and construction. Manage project communications to effectively engage and influence Local Planning Authorities, SuDs Advisory Boards and other external stakeholders to facilitate project delivery to quality, time and budget. Build strong relationships with colleagues to achieve solutions that deliver projects. Identify and share lessons learned and best practice. Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post. Commit to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and your own development through the personal development plan (Sgwrs). Perform any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of this role.
Experience
Proven experience in engineering project management, particularly in infrastructure and roads projects. Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and managing consents and permissions. Demonstrable knowledge of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental standards including CDM2015, UKWAS and ISO14001. Experience mentoring and supporting staff development. Strong communication skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
About you
Committed to delivering high-quality projects that support sustainable forestry and environmental objectives. Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and risks. Proactive, collaborative and solution-focused with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and personal growth.
Qualifications
Relevant engineering qualifications and professional accreditation are expected. Knowledge of forestry infrastructure and environmental regulations is desirable. Commitment to ongoing learning and adherence to NRW policies and procedures.
