Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:30 AM - 3:36 PM. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities available, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

Salary
Up to £39,380 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Additional earnings possible through standby and overtime.

About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Water Operations team at Orpington WTW. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. This role involves operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to deliver services on time, within cost, and to quality standards. You will perform planned and preventative maintenance to support plant operations.

Key responsibilities include investigating plant failures and repairing faults efficiently to avoid process interruptions, providing technical advice and training support, and working on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, electronic control systems (VSD, PLCs), automatic valves, measurement devices, chemical handling, and dosing equipment. You will also complete statutory checks and always work safely in line with Health and Safety guidance. Training on the water treatment process will be provided.

All PPE, tools, fuel card, and van are provided.

Requirements

Experience
Time-served apprentice or significant experience in electrical systems within a true multi-skilled role. Previous electrical apprenticeship experience is essential.

Qualifications
ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 in mechanical engineering, with upskill qualifications in mechanical NVQ2/3 and 18th Edition wiring regulations. Mechanical qualifications to inspect, maintain, diagnose faults, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently are highly desirable.

About You
Self-motivated with a disciplined, can-do attitude and a desire to learn from the team. Able to take ownership of faults, investigate thoroughly, and resolve issues effectively on the first attempt. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within the team. Proactive in recommending improvements and communicating effectively. Prepared to undergo safety training and work in confined spaces if required. Strong knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards. A valid driving licence is essential.
