Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus inclusion on a standby rota with additional payment. The role follows a 6-week shift pattern, including one week of standby covering emergencies out of hours.
Salary
£29,000 to £40,000 depending on skills and experience
About the Role
As a Network Engineer, you will be field-based and responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the wastewater network, including managing work carried out by contractors. You will lead emergency responses to reported pollution incidents, sewer flooding investigations, and burst rising mains. Additionally, you will oversee remedial work on complex issues such as sewer collapses and sinkholes. Planned activities include customer appointments, balancing pond inspections, and site audits.
Your key responsibilities will include leading field investigations of emergency wastewater network incidents, carrying out water quality inspections and sampling watercourses to assess the impact of sewage escapes, and maintaining accurate records in corporate systems including site photos, investigation notes, and recommendations. You will also conduct health and safety inspections of balancing ponds and pipe bridges, proactively engage with communities to prevent complaints and minimise disruption, and perform health and safety audits of contractors, sites, and internal teams to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Financial efficiency during day-to-day network operations will also be your responsibility.

Experience
- Knowledge of pipe-laying and pipeline construction
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good IT skills
About you
- Full driving licence essential
- Engineering background highly desirable
- Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and manage contractors
- Proactive and community-focused approach to minimise disruption and complaints
Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualification desirable but not essential
- Working knowledge of sewer networks advantageous, especially Health & Safety
- NRSWA Signing, Lighting, and Guarding - Unit 2 Operatives preferable
