About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.
In the energy sector, the UK will need to invest up to £900 billion of capital expenditure to enable a net zero economy by 2050. For our clients in this sector, this means delivering complex projects and programmes focused on low-carbon technologies and infrastructure, safely, efficiently, and at pace.
This role will be at the forefront of decarbonisation efforts, contributing to construction projects that increase capacity on the electricity network and connect new generation and storage into the grid. Working closely with client and contractor teams, you will manage and drive project controls activities on major projects and programmes. This may include setting up project controls functions, delivering day-to-day services, and continuously improving existing operations to enhance productivity and performance across the portfolio.
You will be responsible for engaging with key stakeholders to establish timelines for producing quality assured, cost loaded, and out-turned deliverable programmes for sanction that align with the capital plan year on year. You will support contracts teams in evaluating tender returns within procurement guidelines, ensuring contractors understand their obligations.
Owning all aspects of the planning process, including integrated programmes, critical paths, scenario mapping, national grid programmes, and contractor programmes, you will support Project Managers during delivery to certify compliance with NEC and works information. You will ensure cost loading of programmes aligns with the latest WBS structure and enable earned value reporting.
Providing monthly contractor programme analysis and feedback, you will monitor run rates, schedule risks, and mitigation measures. You will consistently apply planning, cost loading, and earned value principles in line with National Grid agreed processes to maintain accurate data capture and reporting.
Maintaining a consistent project baseline to measure performance, you will carry out impact assessments of early warnings or change events, assess and validate supply chain progress during design, and attend site during delivery to confirm construction progress.
Supporting delivery teams with Ofgem re-openers and regulatory reporting, you will represent National Grid by engaging with contractor planning resources to complete month-end reporting routines and liaise with stakeholders to raise exceptions early, enabling corrective actions and sharing good practices.
You will continuously review and improve processes by proposing innovative solutions to drive value and establish best practice planning and control.
