About the Role
Harris Primary Academy Croydon is an inclusive primary academy for children aged three to eleven, providing a happy, caring and supportive environment focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for our children. We are seeking a Premises Manager to lead the Premises Team responsible for the upkeep, care, maintenance, health and safety, and facilities management of the academy, under the direction and leadership of the Estates Manager.

Your responsibilities will include managing all people aspects of the premises team such as recruitment, performance management, training, and scheduling their work. You will supervise all work completed by outside agencies on the premises and grounds, oversee building refurbishments, maintenance, decorating and repairs within the team's capabilities, and contribute personally to these activities.

Additional duties include ensuring academy vehicles are maintained, serviced and cleaned; providing technical and craft support to teaching staff; inspecting the internal and external fabric of buildings and prioritising repairs; liaising on security matters during and outside academy hours; overseeing deliveries; managing a planned programme of maintenance and repair; ensuring high-quality facilities for teaching and learning; managing community use and bookings; maintaining high levels of security and safeguarding; overseeing health and safety systems and reporting; inspecting premises condition and taking action; and managing security, opening and closing of the building including security systems.

This role requires a proactive approach to maintaining a safe, secure, and well-functioning environment that supports the academy’s educational mission.

Requirements

Experience
- Considerable general maintenance experience
- Experience working in an inner city school or educational establishment with children and young people
- Successful experience managing a team of premises staff
- Experience dealing with external contractors
- Experience managing premises budgets and obtaining best value for money
- Experience managing large building projects and a variety of events
- Experience managing service level agreements ensuring good value for money

- Physically fit with the ability to perform some heavy lifting
- Able to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours
- Strong supervisory skills and ability to lead a team effectively
- Committed to maintaining high standards of security and safeguarding
- Proactive, organised and able to prioritise tasks efficiently

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualifications/experience
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements with relevant training
- Sound training or experience in one or more of plumbing, general and ground maintenance, electrical/building maintenance, heating systems
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating systems and common malfunctions
- Knowledge of maintenance and security systems and procedures
- Understanding of procurement procedures for service level agreements
- Understanding of appropriate cleaning methods and standards
