
Location
UK wide, ideally based out of Manchester, Leeds, Chorley, Cockermouth or London offices. Other locations will be considered for the right candidate.
Hours
Full Time - Hybrid working policy with a mix of home and office working. Some UK-wide travel and occasional work outside normal office hours may be required.

As a Principal Engineer within our Water Engineering team, you will lead flood risk and drainage projects across the UK, delivering integrated solutions using state-of-the-art design techniques. Our portfolio includes flood alleviation schemes for local authorities, MOD, private sector clients, surface water separation schemes for water utilities, and natural flood risk management and Sustainable Urban Drainage solutions for housing developers from site inception through to construction.
In this role, you will lead projects ranging from £10k commissions to £100m schemes, covering flood risk defence, transport, local government, utility, infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and residential developments. You will manage projects technically and as a project manager, supporting junior colleagues and working closely with clients to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery. You will also contribute to business development and bidding activities as the team continues to grow.

Experience
- Proven experience leading flood risk and/or surface water separation projects from solution development, optioneering, and design in line with relevant guidance.
- Experience writing reports and business cases, and presenting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in client engagement, leading design discussions, and managing multidisciplinary teams including hydraulic modellers, engineers, and environmental consultants.
- Knowledge or interest in Natural Flood Management solutions.
- Familiarity with the Multi-coloured Manual for flood risk economic appraisal and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
- Proficient in IT systems such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civils 3D, and Microsoft Office suite.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Chartered with ICE or CIWEM, or close to achieving chartership.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Security Clearance to minimum SC level preferable, or willingness to apply for clearance.
