About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as a Principal or Associate Director specializing in Ornithology. You will lead and manage ornithological projects across the UK and Ireland, supporting a diverse portfolio including large infrastructure developments in energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, as well as smaller local projects. Your responsibilities will include managing high-quality, commercially astute bids and tenders; overseeing ornithological aspects from survey scoping through to final assessment; and acting as lead verifier to ensure technical excellence. You will author and review key deliverables such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA). The role involves planning and organising bird survey projects, managing resources and budgets, and delivering consultancy services to internal and external clients. You will develop pragmatic solutions to complex ecological challenges across a variety of bird habitats including grassland, woodland, moorland, wetland, and coastal environments. Effective communication within the ecology team and with clients is essential, alongside mentoring junior staff and leading strategic initiatives to enhance ornithology expertise within the region. At AECOM, you will be part of a global team of over 230 Nature professionals, working in an inclusive environment that values innovation, career development, and work-life balance through flexible hybrid working and personalised benefits.
