About the Role
As a Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of Extra High Voltage (EHV) infrastructure projects across the electricity distribution network. You will manage a portfolio of substation plant replacement, reinforcement, and customer connection schemes through the full project lifecycle—from feasibility and optioneering, through design development, construction, commissioning, to final handover. This role requires strong technical engineering knowledge combined with project delivery skills, offering opportunities to work on complex infrastructure projects at voltage levels from 11kV to 132kV. Key responsibilities include delivering EHV substation projects from concept to completion, developing and reviewing engineering solutions and feasibility studies, coordinating design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning activities, managing project programmes, costs, risks and resources, ensuring compliance with technical standards and safety legislation, interfacing with customers, contractors and stakeholders, supporting outage planning and network access, monitoring project progress, maintaining project documentation and asset records, and contributing to continuous improvement and engineering best practices.
Experience
Proven experience delivering projects within electricity transmission and distribution networks or analogous electrical infrastructure sectors. Experience working on plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection projects. Familiarity with substation plant and equipment operating at 11kV, 33kV, 66kV, with exposure to 132kV desirable. Experience managing project costs, programmes, and stakeholder interfaces. Knowledge of AIS and GIS substations and experience on greenfield and brownfield substation projects.
About you
Strong technical engineering knowledge combined with project delivery capability. Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage complex infrastructure projects. Committed to health and safety compliance and quality standards. Effective communicator with the ability to interface with customers, contractors, suppliers and key stakeholders. Adaptable to hybrid working arrangements including site visits.
