Newcastle upon Tyne with hybrid working including time at Client and Omnia Projects offices and regular site visits across the North East region. Key office locations include Newcastle, Sunderland, York, Castleford, Hull, Sheffield, Northallerton and Leeds.

Hours
Full Time - Hybrid role combining home working, office presence and site visits.

About the Role
As a Senior Project Engineer within the Specification & Design function at Egis Group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping future electricity network investment projects across the distribution network. You will be responsible for front-end engineering, feasibility assessments, optioneering and development of EHV infrastructure projects, ensuring schemes are technically sound, fully specified and ready for successful delivery. Your work will cover projects including network reinforcement, substation asset replacement, customer connections and new infrastructure developments at Primary, Bulk Supply Point and Supply Point Substations. This role requires strong technical expertise combined with project development skills and a thorough understanding of substation plant, network infrastructure and engineering standards across voltage levels from 11kV up to 132kV. Key responsibilities include leading feasibility studies, developing technical specifications, producing project scopes and cost estimates, assessing engineering risks, coordinating surveys and stakeholder inputs, supporting business case development, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements, providing technical guidance, engaging with stakeholders and supporting project handover to delivery teams.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant experience as an electrical engineer with a focus on EHV substations and electricity network infrastructure.
- Proven track record in developing projects involving substation asset replacement, network reinforcement, customer connections and new-build substation developments.
- Experience working at Primary, Bulk Supply Point and Supply Point Substations.
- Strong understanding of power transformers, switchgear, protection and control interfaces, substation primary plant and associated civil infrastructure.
- Experience developing engineering specifications, project scopes, feasibility studies, optioneering and project definition activities.
- Ability to assess technical risks, programme impacts and delivery constraints.
- Knowledge of AIS and GIS substations and associated design considerations.

About You
You are a technically strong electrical engineer who enjoys solving engineering problems and developing practical solutions. You are confident influencing projects in their early stages, evaluating multiple technical options, managing stakeholder input and producing clear, deliverable engineering proposals. You are proactive, detail-oriented and able to provide technical challenge and guidance throughout project development.

Qualifications
- Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of CDM requirements and engineering governance processes.
- Working knowledge of utility industry standards and engineering best practice.
- Detailed knowledge of EHV substation plant and equipment operating at 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV.
