WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Engineer to join the Roads team based in Wales, in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. Your role will be at the heart of our high performing team, using your technical skills and expertise to help us continue delivering exemplary services to our clients for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle. You could find yourself immersed in a variety of projects including strategic network improvements, major and minor highway maintenance and asset renewals, active travel and public transport infrastructure, road safety interventions, as well as public realm initiatives. Our well-established regional client base includes Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, and Welsh local authorities. If a broader client and project experience interests you, you could find yourself supporting national projects such as National Highway’s Scheme Delivery Framework, or our wider Transport & Infrastructure business unit in sectors such as Rail, Water, Energy & Defence. The opportunities within WSP are endless. You will develop engineering solutions for projects, or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, and could be working across several projects at any given time. You will be actively engaged, or responsible depending on experience, for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements. You will work collaboratively with clients, key stakeholders and internal disciplines. You will support Project and Technical Delivery Leads in planning, programming, and pricing of proposals and deliverables. You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.

Requirements

Experience
- Knowledge and experience of highway design at various stages of the project life cycle.
- Specific experience in any, or all, of the following areas is advantageous: highway geometry, active travel, public transport, highway drainage, road restraint systems, pavements, traffic signs and road markings, and utilities.
- Knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Active Travel Act (Wales) Guidance, and Local Authority design guidance.
- Experience in preparation of reports and drawings for transport studies and/or construction projects.
- Ability to use or direct the use of relevant software such as Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, Causeway and/or PDS is advantageous.
- Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.

A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems. Able to work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders and internal teams. Enthusiastic and motivated to support and guide technical staff as appropriate.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, or suitable equivalent. Working towards IEng or CEng with demonstrable progress.
