About the Role
Join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team as a Senior Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in shaping the future of the environment. You will provide technical expertise and undertake surveys for new and existing projects across multi-disciplinary offices throughout the UK. You will contribute to a diverse range of projects including work for the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy projects, and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Your work will involve baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal projects, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, drought monitoring, and more.
Key responsibilities include providing aquatic ecology input into Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), planning, mitigation, and multi-disciplinary projects; authoring technical reports; undertaking data analysis and processing; producing EcIA documents in line with CIEEM guidelines; managing aquatic ecology input into projects including survey design and costing; leading a team of multi-skilled aquatic ecologists across AECOM’s nationwide offices and laboratories; and supporting the wider environmental business.

Experience
- Proven experience in aquatic ecology, including industry standard monitoring techniques and analyses.
- Experience with consenting and permitting requirements related to aquatic ecology.
- Familiarity with legislation relating to the aquatic environment, including the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
- Experience with the EcIA/EIA process from baseline data collection (desk-based and field surveys) to impact assessment and mitigation design.
- Experience in WFD compliance assessment.
- Experience managing aquatic ecology input into projects and leading teams.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in aquatic ecology or related field.
- Full UK driving licence.
