About the Role
Join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team as a Senior Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in shaping the future of environmental projects across the UK. You will provide technical expertise, undertake surveys, and contribute to the growth and development of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. Projects include work for the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy, and nationally significant infrastructure schemes. Your work will cover a diverse range of activities such as baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal projects, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, and drought monitoring.
Key responsibilities include providing aquatic ecology input into EcIA, planning, mitigation, and multi-disciplinary projects; authoring technical reports; data analysis and processing; producing EcIA documents in line with CIEEM guidelines; managing aquatic ecology input including survey design and costing; leading a team of aquatic ecologists across AECOM’s UK offices and laboratories; and supporting the wider environmental business.

Experience
- Proven experience in aquatic ecology including industry standard monitoring techniques and analyses
- Experience with EcIA/EIA processes from baseline data collection to impact assessment and mitigation design
- Familiarity with Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessment and associated legislation
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and authoring technical reports

Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence
