About the Role
Join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team as a Senior Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in shaping the future of environmental projects across the UK. You will provide technical expertise and undertake surveys for a diverse range of projects including work for the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy developments, and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal projects, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, and drought monitoring.
You will contribute to Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), planning, mitigation, and multi-disciplinary projects by authoring technical reports, undertaking data analysis, and producing EcIA documents in line with CIEEM guidelines. You will manage aquatic ecology input into projects, including survey design and costing, and take a lead role within a team of multi-skilled aquatic ecologists across AECOM’s nationwide offices and laboratories. Experience
- Proven experience in aquatic ecology, including industry standard monitoring techniques and analyses
- Experience with EcIA/EIA processes from baseline data collection to impact assessment and mitigation design
- Familiarity with Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessment and associated legislation
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and authoring technical reports

- Holds a full UK driving licence
Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in ecology or related environmental science
- Knowledge of legislation relating to the aquatic environment and permitting requirements
- Membership or eligibility for professional bodies such as CIEEM is desirable
