About the Role
Join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team as a Senior Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in shaping the future of environmental projects across the UK. You will provide technical expertise, undertake surveys, and contribute to the growth and development of a friendly, motivated, and multidisciplinary team. Your work will support a diverse range of projects including Environment Agency and Natural England initiatives, water companies, renewable energy developments, and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Typical projects include baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, and drought monitoring.
Responsibilities include providing aquatic ecology input into Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), planning, mitigation, and multi-disciplinary projects; authoring technical reports; data analysis and processing; producing EcIA documents in line with CIEEM guidelines; managing aquatic ecology input including survey design and costing; leading a team of aquatic ecologists across AECOM’s nationwide offices and laboratories; and supporting the wider environmental business.

Experience
- Proven experience in aquatic ecology, including industry standard monitoring techniques and analyses
- Experience with consenting and permitting requirements related to aquatic environments
- Familiarity with the EcIA/EIA process from baseline data collection to impact assessment and mitigation design
- Experience with Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessment

Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence
