About the Role
We are seeking a Senior / Principal Consultant to join the Stantec UK Air Quality team, working alongside colleagues in Environmental Services and Stantec’s Engineering, Buildings, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Planning teams. The Air Quality team undertakes a wide range of studies across the UK throughout the development control process, including site promotion, planning application input, and condition discharge for all scales and types of development. The role also involves detailed studies supporting Environmental Permit applications in sectors such as power, water, industry, minerals, and waste.
You will be responsible for undertaking air quality impact assessments involving road traffic, combustion, and odour emissions using dispersion modelling software and monitoring programmes to inform report writing and contribute to Environmental Statement preparation. There is an opportunity to develop skills to enhance assessments reflecting emerging requirements for both human and ecological receptors, providing a more holistic approach to air quality.
This role offers the chance to work on diverse land development and urban regeneration projects within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, contributing technical expertise and leadership to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Experience
- Extensive experience in air quality impact assessments involving road traffic, combustion, and odour emissions
- Proficient in air quality dispersion modelling software such as ADMS Roads, AERMOD, or ADMS5
- Experience applying GIS packages within an air quality context, particularly for digitalising modelling inputs and outputs
- Knowledge of Local Air Quality Management (LAQM) and the UK planning and regulatory system
- Experience assessing highway schemes in line with Highways England guidance (DMRB, WebTAG) is desirable
- Experience evaluating emissions from power, minerals, industrial, or waste sectors is advantageous
- Proven track record in managing and mentoring junior team members

You will be a seasoned Air Quality consultant, degree qualified in a relevant discipline, and a Chartered member of a relevant professional institution. You will demonstrate strong leadership skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
