We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Senior Engineer to join our Roads team. Your role will be central to a high performing team, using your technical skills and expertise to drive forward technical quality and service efficiency.
You will support the development of highway designs across a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle. Depending on experience, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
You will provide guidance and support to a team of experienced and developing technical staff, mentoring and upskilling junior members to help them progress professionally and towards their qualifications.
Your responsibilities will include supporting Project Managers with planning, programming, technical input to pricing project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation. You will check, certify and authorise designs, documents, approvals and reports for issue.
You will be active on multiple varied multi-disciplinary projects and client accounts, coordinating engineering and technician resources to deliver work packages. Collaboration with clients, key stakeholders and internal teams will be essential to successfully deliver schemes and projects.
On an ad hoc basis, you may support projects with site supervision, monitoring contractor compliance with contracts and ensuring works align with the Works Information.
Experience
- Passion for design and developing innovative solutions with initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute.
- Relevant highway design experience at various project life cycle stages.
- Advantageous experience in road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design.
- Knowledge of design codes such as Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance.
- Skilled in preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals including departures from standard.
- Ability to use or direct and check use of software including Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS.
- Experience managing change on tasks/projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost and quality.
- Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.

Enthusiastic, proactive and collaborative with strong technical expertise and leadership skills. Able to mentor and support junior staff while managing multiple projects and client relationships effectively.
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Working towards or holding IEng or CEng status.
