About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Environment team as a Senior Water Scientist or Hydrologist and help shape the future of the water industry. You will work on an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients across public and private sectors, including the Environment Agency, Natural England, National Highways, Water Companies, NRW, River Trusts, developers, and overseas clients. Key projects include major infrastructure schemes such as the Lower Thames Crossing and responsibilities for water environment chapters in Environmental Statements and Water Framework Directive assessments.

Your work will cover a broad range of activities such as developing catchment-wide river restoration plans, delivering hydrological reviews and water balance studies, designing and modelling Natural Flood Management measures, supporting Environmental Improvement Programmes (WINEP), and contributing to fish pass and river restoration schemes. You will also help derive strategies to improve catchment water quantity and quality driven by WFD and Local Nature Recovery requirements. While most work focuses on the fluvial environment, significant projects also involve estuaries, lakes, and the marine environment.

The Water Environment team is multi-disciplinary, comprising specialists in geomorphology, hydrology, hydro-ecology, water quality, and hydrogeology, with over 85 surface water and hydrogeology experts. All team members actively engage in client contact and commercial aspects of projects. Health, safety, and environmental considerations underpin all work.

At AECOM, you will benefit from a flexible hybrid working model, career development opportunities, technical practice networks, AECOM University, volunteering days, and a comprehensive range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being.
