About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced SHEQ professional to join Nottingham City Council as a SHEQ Lead within Waste & Cleansing Services. This permanent role offers hybrid working arrangements and the chance to make a significant impact on frontline operational services. You will provide senior professional leadership and assurance on health, safety, environmental and quality compliance, ensuring services are safe, compliant and continuously improving.

Reporting to the Divisional SHEQ Manager, you will act as the delegated lead for operational compliance and service assurance. Your role will involve embedding statutory requirements, management system standards and safe systems of work throughout service delivery. You will work closely with operational leaders and frontline teams, providing evidence-based advice, professional challenge and assurance activities to drive continuous improvement and support effective risk management.

Key responsibilities include planning and delivering inspections, audits and compliance reviews, leading operational compliance assurance, monitoring performance, analysing data to identify trends and risks, acting as the technical lead for ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, preparing assurance reports and supporting incident investigations and organisational learning.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant experience in a senior SHEQ, compliance or health and safety role within a high-risk operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and its practical application.
- Experience of audits, inspections and compliance assurance activity within frontline operational services.
- Practical experience working with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems.
- Ability to provide evidence-based professional advice and challenge.
- Experience in compliance monitoring, incident investigation and using data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Excellent communication, relationship management and report writing skills.

Qualifications
