About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee the delivery of district heating infrastructure projects in Worthing, West Sussex. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of projects from construction through to completion and handover. This role involves managing site teams, subcontractors, and specialist contractors while working closely with the Project Manager, Client, and wider project stakeholders. The position is site-based and requires coordination of multiple teams and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
Main Duties
- Manage projects from construction through to completion and handover.
- Lead and manage site teams including Supervisors, Engineers, and site operatives.
- Coordinate direct labour, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
- Monitor project progress against the programme and forward plan for upcoming works.
- Develop, maintain, and update construction programmes.
- Review work packages to ensure the scope of works is clearly understood.
- Chair regular site meetings and maintain accurate records of actions and decisions.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Manage specialist subcontractors, including NDT providers where required.
- Ensure RAMS are in place, suitable for the works, and communicated to the workforce.
- Ensure project plans, risk assessments, and method statements are implemented.
- Coordinate procurement of plant, materials, and resources.
- Maintain detailed site diaries and project records.
- Monitor production targets, programme performance, and quality standards.
- Identify project risks and opportunities and report these to the Project Manager.
- Work with the Project QS to support additional works, estimates, and contractual requirements.
- Ensure all required handover documentation is completed accurately.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality
- Lead by example in promoting high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, CDM regulations, and relevant legislation.
- Conduct and review risk assessments for site activities.
- Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and followed.
- Ensure employees and subcontractors are suitably trained and competent.
- Manage site inductions and ensure personnel understand their responsibilities.
- Ensure appropriate PPE and safety equipment is available and used correctly.
- Maintain records of site inspections and corrective actions.
- Ensure accident and near-miss reporting procedures are followed.
- Produce and maintain Inspection and Test Plans.
- Maintain the project Quality Assurance File.
- Ensure as-built information and O&M manuals are completed and submitted at project completion.

Experience
- Proven experience as a Site Manager within construction, utilities, infrastructure, or district heating.
- Experience managing site teams, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
- Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
- Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Experience with programme and risk management.
- Experience managing RAMS and site documentation.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance and inspection processes.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and work packages.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision.
- CSCS Manager Card.
- SMSTS qualification.
Desirable
- Experience delivering district heating networks.
- Civil engineering or utilities background.
- Experience working on underground infrastructure and pipework projects.
- Experience with NDT subcontractors.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of QA, ITPs, and construction handover requirements.
