About the Role
Natural Resources Wales is seeking a skilled and motivated Specialist Air Quality Advisor to support the development of regulatory air quality and noise impact modelling assessment. You will create practical guidance and tools that ensure consistent and effective delivery across Wales. This role involves providing expert advice and support to NRW teams, applying your technical knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and regulation. You will stay ahead of sector developments by identifying emerging trends and assessing their implications for NRW's regulatory approach to air quality.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact by combining technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaboration. You will be part of the Air Quality and Noise Team within the Integrated Evidence Group, Knowledge and Evidence department, reporting directly to the Team Leader. The team is passionate about delivering high-quality evidence and expert advice that shapes environmental policy and practice across Wales.

Key responsibilities include providing modelling advice and guidance on air quality and noise impacts using various modelling software, acting as an expert in air dispersion modelling for regulatory risk assessment, coordinating technical advice to ensure consistent local decision-making, and supporting the development of tools and procedures for environmental data analysis and reporting. You will also undertake health and safety duties, participate in incident response activities, and contribute to the organisation’s commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.

Natural Resources Wales supports flexible working and offers a hybrid working pattern with planned face-to-face meetings and training. Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Requirements

Experience
- Substantial experience in all aspects of air quality and noise modelling in regulatory impact assessment.
- Expertise in regulatory air quality and noise modelling.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret modelling results.
- Experience working with industry to analyse and improve air quality.
- Ability to disseminate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience coordinating and providing technical advice to ensure consistency with government approaches.

Qualifications
- Degree in a numerate subject or a degree with significant numerate content is essential.
- Welsh language requirement: Level A1 (entry level) - ability to understand basic phrases and pronounce Welsh names correctly. NRW provides support and learning options to meet this requirement during employment.
