About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting Wales’ environment and public health? Join Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and help shape the future of air quality monitoring across the country. In this role, you will support the development of NRW’s approach to air quality monitoring by creating practical guidance and tools that ensure consistent and effective delivery. You will provide expert advice and technical support to NRW teams, applying your knowledge of environmental legislation and regulation. Staying ahead of sector developments, you will identify emerging trends and assess their implications for NRW’s strategy and operations.

This position is based within the Air Quality and Noise Team, part of the Integrated Evidence Group in the Knowledge and Evidence department. Reporting directly to the Team Leader, you will work alongside specialists committed to delivering high-quality evidence and expert advice that shapes environmental policy and practice across Wales.

As an organisation, NRW supports flexible working. Regular face-to-face meetings or training will be planned in advance. Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

Requirements

Experience
- Direct experience of monitoring emissions to air from a regulated site, either as a regulator, consultant, or operator.
- Detailed knowledge of the MCERTS scheme including technical endorsements related to manual stack emissions monitoring.
- Experience supporting compliance teams with Operator Monitoring Assessment and reviewing periodic monitoring reports.
- Knowledge of BS EN 14181:2014 and BS EN 15259:2023 standards and relevant Guidance Notes is desirable.
- Experience liaising with UK and Welsh trade associations and environmental agencies is advantageous.

Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge.
- MCERTS Level 1 qualification minimum (Level 2 preferred) with technical endorsements is desirable.
- Welsh Language Level A1 (Entry level) essential – ability to understand and use simple phrases and pronounce Welsh names correctly. NRW offers support and learning options to meet this requirement during employment.
