About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as a Technical Director and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of ecology across the UK and Ireland. You will lead and deliver ecological inputs on a diverse portfolio of projects spanning energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, alongside smaller local initiatives. Your expertise will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards. As a key member of the ecology leadership team, you will influence the strategic direction of the team and contribute to business growth through work winning, project management, and delivery. Responsibilities include leading ecological assessments such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations. You will provide technical leadership, manage large-scale projects, engage with clients and stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory bodies, and foster innovation and research within the team. Mentoring and coaching junior staff and peers is a vital part of this role. AECOM offers a supportive environment with internal and external training, mentoring, and career development opportunities. Experience
- Proven experience leading and managing biodiversity assessments for major planning applications and Development Consent Order submissions.
- Strong project management skills including budget management, stakeholder engagement, and bid/tender preparation.
- Experience reviewing and verifying technical ecological work and supporting team members.
- Excellent knowledge of biodiversity legislation, policy, and ecological reporting standards.

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in ecology or a related subject.
