About the Role
Join our team as a Waste Import Sampler at Thames Water. You will be responsible for monitoring and sampling waste discharges into Sewage Treatment Works (STWs) and overseeing internal sludge movements within a defined catchment area. This vital role ensures full compliance with waste acceptance requirements, environmental standards, and health & safety regulations. Help protect the environment, support safe site operations, and play a key role in maintaining the highest standards in waste management. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor in-person waste discharges and sludge transfers
- Collect waste samples at designated sites within the catchment area
- Prepare, label, and document samples accurately
- Ensure timely submission of samples to the laboratory
- Verify waste customer and subcontractor documentation
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of sampling and inspections
- Support compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements
- Conduct regular health, safety, and environmental audits
- Identify and report non-compliance issues
- Track and confirm completion of corrective actions
- Collaborate with site operators, laboratories, and waste teams
- Provide feedback to support continuous process improvement
- Manage customer interactions professionally and confidently

Experience
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, or water industry operations is preferred
- Knowledge of sampling techniques, waste acceptance criteria, and environmental compliance
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations

Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence is required for travel within the catchment area (a company van and fuel card will be provided)
