About the Role
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company, supplying 2.6 billion litres of water daily to 15 million customers through 32,000 km of pipes. As a Water Quality Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of drinking water by carrying out over 500,000 tests annually on samples collected from treatment works, reservoirs, and customer properties.
- You will collect water samples, often involving cold calling at residential and commercial properties, requiring strong customer service skills.
- You will be responsible for testing samples using equipment provided in your van, including bottles, thermometers, and other relevant tools.
- You will manage and maintain sampling records and equipment to UKAS and DWI standards.
- Planning your workload and delivering a monitoring program in collaboration with the Technical Scheduling team, CSWQ group, Process Team, and Regulatory and Performance team.
- Investigating potential supply issues and efficiently planning routes and collection programs.
- Arranging appointments with customers, handling sampling complaints, and participating in community events.
- Driving a large commercial van for a significant portion of your day, navigating busy city centres, enclosed estates, and remote rural locations.

Requirements

Experience
- Previous experience is not explicitly required but having knowledge of the water industry or related processes is advantageous.
- Confident in cold calling residential and commercial properties.
- Comfortable and experienced in driving large commercial vehicles.

- Excellent customer service skills to represent Thames Water professionally during customer visits.
- Highly organised and able to work independently.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate record keeping of daily samples.
- Good written, oral communication, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
- Ability to plan journeys efficiently and demonstrate good driving knowledge.
- Poised and confident driving in varied environments including busy urban areas and rural locations.

Qualifications
- A clean driving licence is essential for this role.
- Willingness to learn and develop knowledge about water quality and related processes.
