About the Role
Thames Water is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Water Resources team as a Water Resources Modeller, where you’ll help shape how London’s water is managed over the next 100 years. This role is ideal for someone curious about how complex systems work, who enjoys exploring how data and models interact, and is motivated by solving real-world environmental challenges.

As a Water Resources Modeller, you will undertake water resource system analysis and provide expert insight on solutions to support the maintenance and enhancement of our water supply capability. You will interpret and analyse modelling results, providing robust insight and clear recommendations to internal and external stakeholders to support decision-making.

You will support delivery of key inputs to our Water Resources Management Plan and Drought Plan, liaising with external parties such as the Environment Agency on modelling and analysis as required. You will be responsible for providing water resources data and information, including deployable output, climate change impact, outage, and headroom outputs to support operations, regulatory reporting, and long-term planning.

Using our models, you will analyse water resource system performance and help identify and promote the development of modelling tools and supply-demand assessment methodologies, including influencing those required for the Water Resources Southeast (WRSE) regional planning group.

Requirements

Experience
Demonstrated curiosity and systems thinking with a desire to understand how complex water supply systems operate and respond to change. Proven modelling expertise using Pywr and Aquator, including developing, maintaining, and communicating model outputs for operational and strategic decision-making. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a critical approach to interpreting data and model results.

About you
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to translate technical findings into clear insights for diverse stakeholders. Sound understanding of water resources regulation and planning frameworks, including how regulatory requirements influence modelling and investment decisions. Effective project management and organisational skills, delivering high-quality modelling and analysis work to agreed timelines and standards. Ability to code (e.g. Python or R) and a proactive approach to improving data management, data visualisation, and analysis capabilities.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or experience in water resources modelling or related fields are desirable but not explicitly stated. A strong technical background and willingness to engage with complex environmental challenges are essential.

Benefits
Annual leave starting at 26 days per year, increasing to 30 with length of service (plus bank holidays). Company pension scheme through AON. Cycle to Work scheme. Access to a range of health and wellbeing benefits including annual health MOTs, physiotherapy, counselling, shopping vouchers, life assurance, and more.
