About the Role
Join AECOM's multidisciplinary water environment team as a Water Science Graduate starting Summer 2026. You will work alongside specialists in hydrogeology, hydrology, hydro-morphological water quality, and water resource management, supporting projects for a diverse range of public and private sector clients including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Highways England, Natural England, Water Utilities, Rivers and Wildlife Trusts, commercial developers, and overseas clients. Our team is involved in major infrastructure projects such as HS2 and the Thames Tideway Tunnel, coordinating water environment chapters in Environmental Statements and Water Framework Directive assessments.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in surface water environments, including fluvial, estuarine, lacustrine, and marine settings. Your work will encompass hydrological, water quality, hydro-morphological, and hydro-ecological activities across a variety of projects such as water quality baseline and impact studies, nutrient loading and pollution monitoring and modelling, flood and drought investigations, channel restoration, Natural Flood Management, and environmental compliance assessments.
Additional responsibilities include pollution prevention advice, preparing Water Management Plans, acting as Environmental Clerk of Works, developing sustainable treatment trains, and supporting applications for environmental permits and consents. Health, safety, and environmental considerations are integral to all activities.
At AECOM, you will benefit from a supportive environment with on-the-job mentoring, a structured 2-year graduate development programme (ADVANCE), and opportunities for professional development including potential Chartership with CIWEM. You will be part of a global team dedicated to delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that positively impact communities worldwide.
Experience
Some experience or knowledge of surface water environments including fluvial, estuarine, lake, or marine systems is beneficial. Experience using GIS is required. Ability to conceptualise surface water environment issues and strong analytical and numerical skills are essential.
About you
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively engage with clients and colleagues. You should be motivated, eager to learn, and able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. A full driving licence is desirable due to travel requirements for site surveys involving equipment and limited public transport access. We celebrate diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities.
Qualifications
Degree qualified with an MSc in Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Hydrochemistry, or a related discipline. A positive attitude and willingness to develop professionally within a leading consultancy are essential. Permanent right to work in the UK is required as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
