About the Role
Join AECOM's multidisciplinary water environment team as a Water Science Graduate starting Summer 2026. You will work alongside specialists in hydrogeology, hydrology, hydro-morphology, water quality, and water resource management, supporting projects for public and private sector clients including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Highways England, Natural England, Water Utilities, Rivers and Wildlife Trusts, commercial developers, and overseas clients. Key projects include HS2 and the Thames Tideway Tunnel, with responsibilities including coordinating water environment chapters in Environmental Statements and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments.

Your work will cover a broad range of hydrological, water quality, hydro-morphological, and hydro-ecological activities, primarily in fluvial environments but also estuaries, lakes, and marine settings. Typical tasks include water quality studies, hydrological investigations, geomorphological assessments, natural flood management, environmental compliance, pollution prevention advice, and applications for environmental permits and consents.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist surface water environment team in a leading consultancy, contributing to major national and international infrastructure projects while developing your technical skills and professional career.

Enjoy the Perks
At AECOM, you will benefit from career development opportunities, a flexible hybrid working model, technical practice networks, AECOM University training, and volunteering days. You will receive on-the-job mentoring from senior team members and participate in a 2-year graduate ADVANCE programme designed to support your professional growth and potential Chartership with relevant institutions such as CIWEM.

Requirements

Experience
Some experience or knowledge of surface water environments is beneficial but not essential. Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to multidisciplinary projects is key.

About you
Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to conceptualise surface water environment issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage with clients. Willingness to travel to sites for surveys, sometimes with equipment, and adapt to limited public transport access. A full driving licence is desirable.

Qualifications
Degree qualified with an MSc in Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Hydrochemistry or a related discipline. Experience using GIS is required. Commitment to professional development and potential Chartership with relevant institutions is expected.
