About the Role
Join AECOM's multidisciplinary water environment team as a Water Science Graduate starting Summer 2026. You will work alongside specialists in hydrogeology, hydrology, hydro-morphological water quality and water resource management, supporting projects for public and private sector clients including the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Highways England, Natural England, Water Utilities, Rivers and Wildlife Trusts, commercial developers, and overseas clients. The role involves contributing to major infrastructure projects such as HS2 and the Thames Tideway Tunnel, coordinating water environment chapters in Environmental Statements, and leading Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments.

Your work will cover a broad range of hydrological, water quality, hydro-morphological and hydro-ecological activities including water quality studies, hydrological investigations, geomorphological studies, natural flood management, environmental compliance, environmental impact assessments (EIA), pollution prevention advice, and applications for environmental permits and licences. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist surface water environment team in an established consultancy.

Health, safety and environmental considerations underpin all activities. You will be supported through a structured graduate development programme and paired with a senior mentor to guide you through live projects and business development tasks. The role offers career development opportunities, flexible hybrid working, access to technical practice networks, AECOM University training, and volunteering days.

Requirements

Experience
Some experience or knowledge of surface water environments including fluvial, estuarine, lacustrine and marine settings is beneficial. Experience using GIS is required. Ability to conceptualise surface water environment issues and strong analytical and numerical skills are essential.

About you
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise reports. Enthusiastic, motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Willingness to travel to site locations, sometimes with equipment, is required. A full driving licence is desirable due to limited public transport access to some sites. Commitment to health, safety and environmental best practices.

We celebrate diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities.

Qualifications
Degree qualified with an MSc in Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Hydrochemistry or a related discipline. Candidates should be ready to engage with professional development opportunities including potential Chartership with relevant institutions such as the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). Permanent right to work in the UK is required as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
