London office with hybrid working; minimum two to three days per week in the office. Travel to client sites and other office locations as required across London and the South East.

About the Role
Tetra Tech is seeking an Associate Director - Ecology to lead and grow our ecology business across London and the South East. This senior role involves delivering complex ecological projects across diverse sectors including residential-led regeneration, commercial development, infrastructure, aviation, data centres, logistics, urban greening, and major transport projects. You will provide strategic ecological advice, lead project delivery, manage client relationships, and drive commercial performance. Working alongside planners, environmental managers, landscape architects, and engineers, you will help clients navigate planning requirements, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), protected species constraints, and wider environmental considerations within one of the UK's most dynamic development markets.

As a key leader, you will mentor and develop ecologists at all career stages, contribute to technical excellence and knowledge sharing, and support the growth and strategic direction of the London ecology team. This role offers the opportunity to influence high-profile projects and shape sustainable development outcomes while supporting business growth and team capability.

Requirements

Experience
Significant ecological consultancy experience, typically over eight years, with a strong technical background in Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA), protected species surveys and mitigation, and quality assurance. Proven ability to manage complex, profitable projects and lead multidisciplinary teams. Experience in client relationship management, business development, and commercial project delivery. Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and environmental regulations is essential.

Passionate about developing people and fostering a collaborative culture through mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Strategic thinker with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications
Degree or higher qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, or related discipline. Full Member of CIEEM (MCIEEM) or eligible to obtain membership. Full UK driving licence is essential. Beneficial experience includes working within the London planning and development environment, supporting mixed-use, commercial, residential, and infrastructure developments, and an established client network within the London market.
