About the Role
Tetra Tech is a leading global provider of consulting and engineering services. Our Groundwater & Geothermal Team, part of a wider geo-environmental and mining business, delivers projects for public and private sector clients across the UK and Ireland. Our work spans water, energy, infrastructure, defence, environmental management and property sectors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an ambitious hydrogeologist with relevant experience to join the team. You will work across a varied portfolio of groundwater and geothermal projects including groundwater resources, dewatering, contaminant hydrogeology, monitoring, borehole investigations, hydrogeological risk assessment and geothermal development. The appointment may be made at Consultant or Senior Hydrogeologist grade depending on experience. At Senior grade, you will demonstrate greater independence managing defined work packages or smaller projects, act as a day-to-day client contact and review the work of less experienced colleagues. Reporting to a Principal or Associate member of the Groundwater & Geothermal Team, you will contribute to the technical and commercial delivery of projects from initial scoping through field investigation, assessment and reporting. The role combines office-based technical work with site activities. You will collaborate with colleagues across the wider geo-environmental business and other disciplines, supporting projects throughout Great Britain and Ireland, as well as selected international assignments. You will be encouraged to develop project management, client relationship and leadership skills within a supportive, growing consultancy environment.
Core Capabilities
- Technical delivery: Plan, design, procure, supervise and manage groundwater and geothermal investigations, desk studies, technical assessments, conceptual site models and risk assessments.
- Field leadership: Carry out and supervise field activities such as groundwater monitoring, water features surveys, borehole drilling and installation, pumping tests, groundwater sampling and other hydrogeological testing.
- Analysis and reporting: Collate, quality-check, analyse and interpret groundwater, flow, water quality and site investigation data, producing clear reports, notes, drawings and presentations.
- Digital and regulatory support: Use GIS and digital tools, support abstraction, discharge, dewatering and other permit or licence applications.
- Client and project support: Help manage project set up, budgets, programmes, resources, subcontractors, change control and fee proposals, while supporting clients and junior colleagues. Contribute to tenders, fee proposals, bids and business development activities.
Working Environment
This role combines office-based and site work, with hybrid and flexible working available. Travel across Great Britain and Ireland is expected, with occasional short periods away from your base office. Tetra Tech provides a collaborative environment supporting individual performance, innovation and creativity. We support public and private sector clients on local, national and international projects to deliver sustainable and resilient solutions. Our UK, Ireland and Netherlands operations include over 6,000 employees leading with science to solve complex problems. Reasonable adjustments will be made to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements in line with the Equality Act 2010.
Experience
Relevant hydrogeology or groundwater experience including practical fieldwork and investigation. Experience in groundwater resources, dewatering, contaminant hydrogeology, geothermal development, hydrogeological risk assessment, borehole supervision, pumping test analysis, MODFLOW, hydrochemistry, permit/licence applications, fee proposals and subcontractor management is desirable. Experience working towards chartership or UK security clearance is advantageous.
About you
Strong organisation, communication and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to travel and work on site as required. Enthusiastic to develop project management, client relationship and leadership skills within a consultancy environment.
Qualifications
A good honours degree in geology, earth science, engineering geology, environmental science or related discipline. Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and GIS skills. A full driving licence is required. A developing understanding of UK and/or Irish groundwater regulation and licensing is expected.
