Hybrid and flexible working available, combining office-based technical work with site activities.

About the Role
Tetra Tech is a leading global provider of consulting and engineering services. Our Groundwater & Geothermal Team delivers projects for public and private sector clients across the UK and Ireland, spanning water, energy, infrastructure, defence, environmental management, and property sectors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an ambitious hydrogeologist with relevant experience to join our team.

You will work on a varied portfolio of groundwater and geothermal projects including groundwater resources, dewatering, contaminant hydrogeology, monitoring, borehole investigations, hydrogeological risk assessment, and geothermal development. The appointment may be at Consultant or Senior Hydrogeologist grade depending on experience. Senior Hydrogeologists are expected to manage defined work packages or smaller projects independently, act as day-to-day client contacts, and review the work of less experienced colleagues.

Reporting to a Principal or Associate member of the Groundwater & Geothermal Team, you will contribute to the technical and commercial delivery of projects from initial scoping through field investigation, assessment, and reporting. You will be encouraged to develop project management, client relationship, and leadership skills within a supportive and growing consultancy environment.

The role involves a combination of office-based technical work and site activities. You will collaborate with colleagues across the wider geo-environmental business and other disciplines, supporting projects throughout Great Britain and Ireland, as well as selected international assignments.

Key responsibilities include planning, designing, procuring, supervising, and managing groundwater and geothermal investigations, desk studies, technical assessments, conceptual site models, and risk assessments. You will lead field activities such as groundwater monitoring, water features surveys, borehole drilling and installation, pumping tests, groundwater sampling, and other hydrogeological testing. You will collate, quality-check, analyse, and interpret groundwater, flow, water quality, and site investigation data, producing clear reports, notes, drawings, and presentations.

Additional duties include using GIS and digital tools, supporting abstraction, discharge, dewatering, and other permit or licence applications, managing project setup, budgets, programmes, resources, subcontractors, change control, and fee proposals, while supporting clients and junior colleagues. You will also contribute to tenders, fee proposals, bids, and business development activities.

Tetra Tech provides a collaborative environment that supports individual performance, innovation, and creativity. We support public and private sector clients on local, national, and international projects to deliver sustainable and resilient solutions. Our UK, Ireland, and Netherlands operations include over 6,000 employees who are Leading with Science® to solve complex problems.

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, reasonable adjustments will be made to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements, including adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or physical workspace. Please inform us if you need any accommodations during the recruitment process or in your day-to-day role.

Requirements

Experience
Relevant hydrogeology or groundwater experience with practical fieldwork and investigation skills. Experience in groundwater resources, dewatering, contaminant hydrogeology, geothermal, hydrogeological risk assessment, borehole supervision, pumping test analysis, MODFLOW, hydrochemistry, permit/licence applications, fee proposals, subcontractor management, and working towards chartership or UK security clearance is desirable.

About you
Strong organisation, communication, and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to travel across Great Britain and Ireland. Enthusiastic about developing project management, client relationship, and leadership skills within a consultancy environment.

Qualifications
A good honours degree in geology, earth science, engineering geology, environmental science, or a related discipline. Good Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS skills. A full driving licence is required. A developing understanding of UK and/or Irish groundwater regulation and licensing is important.
