About the Role
Amazon's Legal Department is seeking an attorney to join the sustainability, ESG, and product safety compliance legal team supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS delivers cloud computing services and IT infrastructure globally, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, AI, and machine learning. This role is part of a global legal team advising AWS on sustainability, regulatory advocacy, product compliance, environmental, health and safety, and trade matters across AWS’s infrastructure hardware supply chains, data center footprint, and global customer base. You will provide strategic legal counsel on projects and programs, collaborating with business functions such as sustainability (carbon, water, energy efficiency, human rights, circular economy), customer sales, supply chain, engineering, product compliance, and data center operations. Your work will support innovative AWS customer-facing sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with ESG procurement regulations. You will navigate evolving regulatory landscapes across multiple jurisdictions, deliver legal guidance on hardware deployments, and partner with public policy experts to develop solutions for emerging regulations. This role involves day-to-day ESG guidance in transactions and advising on new legal trends. The position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, dynamic team leading pioneering global initiatives within a world-renowned brand. Some international travel will be required. Our lawyers value working closely and in person with business clients and local legal teams to address novel challenges in a fast-growing business.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and support for sustainability, hardware product compliance, and related regulatory matters in Europe, Middle East, and Africa
- Advise on global regulations related to sustainability reporting; manufacture, sale, distribution, use, handling, and disposition of hardware products; and chemicals regulation
- Develop innovative and scalable ESG contracting and compliance solutions
- Research and analyze evolving regulatory landscapes and communicate complex legal implications to business stakeholders
- Support regulatory engagements and provide strategic input on legal and business decisions
- Manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously with precision and creativity

Experience
- Licensed to practice law in Europe, US, or other common law jurisdiction
- Minimum of 5+ years post-qualification legal experience
- Proven experience providing legal counsel on sustainability, hardware product compliance, environmental, or similar regulatory matters
- Familiarity with global regulations related to sustainability reporting; manufacture, sale, distribution, use, handling, and disposition of hardware products; or chemicals regulation
- Experience navigating bespoke provisions within transactions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisive legal recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide practical legal guidance in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- Experience combining corporate law firm and in-house roles
- Experience in the technology sector
