Hampton Sewage Treatment Works, Hampton Coal Wharf, TW12 2ES, London.

Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus inclusion in an out-of-hours support rota with additional payment.

Salary
Up to £58,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus car allowance, tools, and PPE.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Support Engineer to join our team at Thames Water. You will provide comprehensive technical support to the Electrical Services team across process operations and Capital Delivery. Your responsibilities will include scrutinising the installation of new assets to ensure compliance with Thames Water asset standards and delivering directly managed projects.
Thames Water operates extensive high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical power networks that are critical to water production and waste treatment for 15 million customers. Your role will focus on maintaining the safe and reliable operation of these vital electrical assets.
You will provide expert technical support to frontline teams, helping resolve problems, implement solutions, deliver asset upgrade programmes, and investigate unsafe or undesirable incidents.
Key duties include:
- Providing technical support and advice on operation and maintenance of electrical systems, including input to risk management.
- Supporting and liaising on high voltage or complex low voltage asset upgrade schemes and managing capital programmes.
- Investigating electrical system failures or unsafe events and producing detailed reports.
- Managing maintenance reports, asset registers, manuals, and other technical documentation.
- Conducting asset assessment surveys, supporting site inspections, and delivering solutions.
- Coaching and mentoring colleagues to prepare for Authorised Person appointments and improve technical competence.
- Reviewing risk assessments, method statements, contractor electrical safety procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Participating in an out-of-hours support system covering electrical networks across the business.
This role requires appointment as an Authorised Person for high voltage and low voltage networks through a development plan.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven working experience in industrial electrical power and engineering.
- Experience in electrical engineering within a large industrial utility or water company.
- Operational experience as an Authorised Person.
- Experience engaging with process operations teams, contractors, and third parties.
- Experience mentoring and coaching others.
- Producing maintenance and fault-finding activity reports.

About you
- Strong knowledge of electrical technology and electrical safety procedures.
- Understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations and their application.
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations, particularly electrical safety rules and procedures.
- Ability to provide expert technical support and deliver solutions.
- Motivated to support and develop others through coaching and mentoring.
- Willingness to participate in out-of-hours support rota.

Qualifications
- HNC, NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or significant related experience.
- Formal training in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671.
- Appointment or eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Person for high voltage or low voltage systems.
