
Location

Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus inclusion in an out-of-hours support rota with additional payment.
Salary
Up to £58,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus car allowance, tools, and PPE.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Support Engineer to join our team at Hampton Sewage Treatment Works. You will provide comprehensive technical support to the Electrical Services team across process operations and Capital Delivery, ensuring new assets are installed and commissioned to Thames Water asset standards. Your responsibilities include delivering directly managed projects and maintaining the safe, reliable operation of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical power networks critical to water production and waste treatment for 15 million customers.
Your role involves supporting and advising on the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, contributing to risk management, and providing timely input to complex asset upgrade schemes. You will investigate electrical system failures and unsafe events, manage maintenance reports and technical documentation, undertake asset assessments, and support site inspections. Coaching and mentoring colleagues towards Authorised Person appointments and reviewing electrical safety arrangements are key aspects of this role. You will also be expected to participate in an out-of-hours support system and progress through a development plan to become an Authorised Person for HV and LV networks.
This is a vital role that requires a high level of electrical knowledge, safety awareness, and the ability to engage effectively with operations teams, contractors, and third parties to deliver safe and efficient electrical engineering solutions.
Experience
- Proven working experience in industrial electrical power and engineering within a large industrial utility or water company.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching others.
- Operational experience as an Authorised Person.
- Producing maintenance and fault-finding activity reports.
- Engaging with process operations teams, contractors, and third parties.
- Understanding and application of Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, particularly electrical safety rules and procedures.

You are proactive, able to work collaboratively across teams, and motivated to support continuous improvement and technical competence development within the team. You are prepared to participate in out-of-hours support and take on responsibility as an Authorised Person through a structured development plan.
Qualifications
- HNC or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or significant related experience.
- Formal training in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671.
- Appointment or readiness for appointment as an Authorised Person for high voltage or low voltage systems.
