Salary
Up to £42,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to an additional £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
About the Role
We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Waste Team at Crossness STW. In this role, you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely, and effective manner with minimum supervision. Your work will help ensure all sites remain operational, benefiting our customers and actively reducing pollution from our sites.
You will be responsible for investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents. Planned maintenance on electrical equipment will be carried out in compliance with company procedures to minimise breakdowns. You will provide technical advice to the wider team, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as required.
The role involves working with technical equipment such as various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems including variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling, and dosing equipment. PPE, tools, and a van will be provided.
Experience
- Considerable experience in electrical systems gained through a time-served apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Proven experience maintaining, testing, installing, and fault diagnosing electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Experience working with 3-phase electrical systems.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety policies and processes.
- Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, with successful completion of appropriate training.
- Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota after training and assessment.

- A full UK driving licence is essential.
Qualifications
- Time-served apprenticeship in the engineering sector or NVQ/C&G Level 3 or higher in electrical engineering.
- Qualifications in BS7671 or 18th Edition electrical wiring regulations.
