Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus participation in an out-of-hours standby rota with additional payment

Salary
Up to £42,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

About the Role
We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Waste Team at Crossness STW. You will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work ensures that all sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

This role offers the chance to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact by actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

Key responsibilities include investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents. You will perform planned maintenance on electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimize breakdowns. You will provide technical advice to the wider team, stay updated with technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees if required.

You will work with technical equipment such as various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems including variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.

PPE, tools, and a van will be provided.

Requirements

Experience
- Considerable experience in electrical systems gained through a time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or higher in electrical engineering.
- Proven experience maintaining, testing, installing, and fault diagnosing electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Experience working with 3-phase electrical systems.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety policies and processes.
- Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, with successful completion of appropriate training.
- Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota after training and assessment.

About you
- Reliable and motivated with a strong commitment to safety.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to undertake role-specific training to meet safety and competency requirements.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications
- Time-served apprenticeship in the engineering sector or NVQ Level 3 or greater in electrical engineering.
- Qualifications in BS7671 or 18th Edition electrical wiring regulations.
